What is Reflexology?

Reflexology, or Zone Therapy is a study of the reflexes. The Meridian Reflexology concept focuses on the 24 source points, where the practice of a type stimulating massage focusing on the foot, hand, and/or the ears. It is important to know that all of the bodies’ organs have been mapped out specifically on these particular parts of the body, so when considering reflexology, one which usually has pain will seek out this type of stimulation in effort to relieve that pain. For example if one has a headache, when going to a reflexologist, the practitioner will work on the part of the hand, foot, and/or ears that corresponds with the brain, as this can accomplish the same goal of establishing equilibrium or balance in the body as seeing an acupuncturist. Not only will you find reflexology to be useful for pain relief, but it can also restore one’s health, as well as increase one’s energy.

Historical Uses for Reflexology

Reflexology has been around for quite some time and used in Egypt, India, China and Japan. Western reflexology was developed by William Fitzgerald who was an ear, nose and throat specialist. His initial research found that there were different zones in the body and that putting constant pressure on various points in the body affected different areas in the zones. Eunice Ingram who was a zone therapy massage therapist developed the foot map that we know of now.

There are many different hand techniques used to apply pressure such as thumb walking, finger walking, thumb hook, rotating on a point, pivoting on a point and finger rolling. Sessions last generally 30-60 minutes and can often be quite painful. The client usually sits in a comfortable lounging position while treatment is being performed.

You Say you are a Full Spectrum Reflexologist, What is That?

Full Spectrum Reflexology is based on ancient historical practices and physio/anatomical control studies. These have shown that reflex point stimulation within the micro-reflex point systems of the foot, hand and outer ear can trigger the electrical, photo physical, and hormonal aspects of the body’s self repair/spontaneous healing processes. Full Spectrum Reflex Stimulus is accompanied with steady or alternating finger/probe pressure, linear percussion machines, ice, heat, intra/ultra sound, Low level Laser Light, magnetism, piezo/microamp electricity, vacuum cups/boots and/or foot joint reflex alignment. The reflex mechanism of action requires that the body be in a state of normal cellular hydration, and nutritionally sufficient.

I’m Not Sure I Understand the Difference Between Reflexology and Full Spectrum Reflexology, Could You Please Elaborate?

Sorry, Full Spectrum Reflexology uses not only direct hand massage/stimulation, but tools/probes as well. You see, we feel by using such instruments in conjunction with the traditional modes of massage/stimulation, one is able to feel the results in fewer sessions. Fewer sessions will also save you more money! Further, in using these probes/tools enable more joules (unit of measure for light/photon energy used to determine dosage; 100nW=6 joules) to the area to be treated, thus speeding up recovery, Lord-willing.
